Archbishop Andrew Chan urges Christians to unite with Christ at Ecumenical Prayer Meeting
Publish Date: 01-Jun-2021
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was held between 13 and 25 May under the theme “Abide in my love and you shall bear much fruit”. The theme and the international resources for this year’s event were prepared by the Monastic Community of Grandchap in Switzerland. The annual event was concluded by the Ecumenical Prayer Meeting held on 22 May at St Margaret Church. Archbishop Andrew Chan, who preached at the service, reminded the congregants that when we pray with our hearts united with Christ and lived with Christ, it would be natural for us to be willing to see ourselves, others, the world and the unity of Christians through His heart. In his sermon, Archbishop Chan said that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, instead of unity, nations have pitted against each other for their own interests and political influence and gave no thought to the needs of the poor. Such disunity pushes humans into division and on the verge of destruction. However, Archbishop Chan was convinced that when Christians gather together to pray for unity, the Lord will also look forward to seeing them bringing a sign of unity in this divided world.
