Expert warns about gaming addiction and advises parents to talk to their children

Publish Date: 20-May-2017

SKH Tsoi Kung Po Secondary School and the Church of the Good Shepherd co-organized a film show and seminar on 25 March. The event was titled “Quitting gaming addiction”. Dr Charles Yu, an expert in emotional management, was the keynote speaker. He helped parents understand the reasons behind their children’s gaming addiction so that they can build effective channels of communication with their children. Better communication pulls the family closer, and enhances a child’s social and academic skills.

Dr Yu thinks that the reason behind children becoming addicted to gaming is loneliness. Parents need to make time to talk to their children, pay attention to them and help them cultivate other interests. When parents appreciate their children and encourage them to be candid about their feelings, children will become confident and quit their gaming addiction.
