Lady MacLehose Centre launched the Jockey Club Sunshine Project on 20 May. Funded
by the Jockey Club, the project targets subdivided flat residents in Kwai Tsing
and will set up a neighbourhood support centre and help them to establish a
network of mutual help. One of the officiating guests at the launching ceremony,
Stephen Sui, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, praised the project for its addressing
the plights of families in subdivided flats. The project offers services that address the needs of the subdivided flat residents: a consultancy service to help the renters better understand the terms in their tenancy agreements, the use of cooking facilities for those who have no kitchen at home, and a bulk purchase scheme to minimize the participants’ expenses on daily necessities. It is expected that this three-year project can help over 11,800 people.
