© 2017 Echo. All rights reserved. An increasing number of people choose to retire in their fifties. HKSKH Welfare Council’s “We Can Cook” course targets these early retirees. Co-organized with Towngas and the Institute of Dining Art, this one-year course started in July 2016 and promoted lifelong learning. Twelve master chefs taught one dish each, including dishes from Chinese, Japanese, French, Vietnamese, Thai cuisines and molecular gastronomy. The graduation dinner was held on 14 June 2017 and attended by two hundred people. During the graduation dinner, Joe Sham, Assistant Director of Welfare Council said, “The course was designed specifically to entice early retirees to participate in community activities. Upon graduation, some of the participants moved on to become volunteers, serving the elderly in need. This project is also the fruit of collaboration between business and social welfare sectors and a realisation of corporate social responsibility.”
