The inauguration was held at All Saints Cathedral in Khartoum. The first archbishop of the new province, Ezekiel Kondo, was also installed during the ceremony. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, presided over the service and said that this was a “rare and precious” event. Archbishop Paul Kwong, who attended the ceremony as the chair of the Anglican Consultative Council, concurred with the sentiment. This is the second time Archbishop Kwong witnessed the creation of a province in the Anglican Communion. The first time is in 1998, when Hong Kong and Macau together formed a province.
