Elderly volunteers in Central and Western district help build age-friendly community
Publish Date: 19-Sep-2017
To turn the Central and Western District into an age-friendly community, HKSKH Western District Elderly Community Centre held the “Jockey Club Age-friendly City Promotion Programme” with the Central and Western District Office and Central and Western District Council. The programme was sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Between February and June, thirty elderly volunteers received training in architecture, drama, and social media. Professional architects and interior designers delivered lectures on age-friendly architectural designs and neighbourhood planning. A drama instructor taught the volunteers how to perform and write skits, which they would stage on the street as a flash mob. A computer instructor helped them create a Facebook page to raise awareness for an age-friendly community.
