Cultural exchange marks Peace Day

St John’s Cathedral HIV Education Centre held the 2017 International Day of Peace cultural exchange event on 23 September, the Saturday closest to the UN International Day of Peace on 21 September. The event featured a variety of shows including Indonesian dance performance, rope skipping, and band show. It attracted hundreds of visitors and among them were representatives from consulates general, UNESCO and other NGOs. The event was sponsored by Hop Yuen Charitable Foundation Fund. Professor Samuel Leong, former director of UNESCO-RLCCE Observatory, was the guest of honour. In his speech, he spoke about building peace for this planet in order to benefit humans, animals, and nature. Dean Matthias Der pointed out in his opening address that people could work together to better our world through dialogue and relationship-building despite their different backgrounds and divergent views.
