Publish Date: 06-Nov-2017
Unesco announced St James’ Settlement’s Blue House Cluster Project as winner of the Award of Excellence in its Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation on 1 November. This is the first project in Hong Kong to win the top award in this category. The jury was especially impressed with the efforts to preserve not only the architecture, but also the cultural fabric of the neighborhood. The citation states that “this unprecedented civic effort to protect marginalized local heritage in one of the world’s most high-pressure real estate markets is an inspiration for other embattled urban districts in the region and beyond.”
