Welfare Council undertakes urban renewal project in Kowloon City

Publish Date: 05-Dec-2017

HKSKH Welfare Council has been awarded a grant of $79 million by the Urban Renewal Fund to develop and operate the Kowloon City Themed Walking Trail for a period of six years beginning on 1 January 2018. At 6.5 km, this trail is the longest themed walk in Hong Kong.

The trail links historical and recreational sites in the district, such as the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Holy Carpenter Church, Kowloon Walled City Park, the historical relic Sung Wong Toi, Kai Tak Airport, Cattle Depot Artist Village, the area known as Thirteen Streets, Hoi Sham Park, Pak Tai Temple, and Kwun Yam Temple.

The trail is split into five sections, each focusing on a different aspect: the history of the formerly ungoverned Kowloon Wall City, the Song dynasty relics, old temples, the waterfront, and art. As part of the project, the Welfare Council also plans on incorporating AR (augmented reality) features and creating mobile apps.
