St James’ Settlement promotes food donation through large feast

Hong Kong wastes approximately three thousand tonnes of food daily while many among the urban poor are in need of food assistance. To raise awareness about environmental protection and food donation, FOOD-CO collected 1.5 tonnes of excess and leftover food items and used them as ingredients for the dishes at a large feast hosted on 16 December 2017, in Yuen Long, New Territories.

FOOD-CO is a digital platform that combines technology and data analysis to facilitate more efficient and effective food donation services. It was put to use in May 2017 and was developed by St James’ Settlement under the commission of the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund.
