Nearly seventy people attended the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Servers’ Guild annual meeting on 7 January at Calvary Church. During the meeting, parish representatives took part in two rounds of voting and elected eleven members to the second executive committee. The Revd Dr Lam Chun-wai, chaplain to the servers’ guild, talked about how to train child servers as the staff counted votes. Fr Lam said that children as young as six could become servers, but he would not offer them any special training. He would only ask them to put on their robes and learn how to conduct themselves by observing the adult servers. “Servers learn how to conduct themselves and respect their identity as altar servers when they put on their robes, no matter whether they are adults or children.” Fr Lam said. On 17 January, the newly elected executive committee members met to choose among themselves a new president and two vice presidents. The executive committee will be inaugurated in the servers’ guild annual service on 2 February at Holy Trinity Cathedral.
