HK Christian Council promotes charitable causes at Ash Wednesday service
Publish Date: 09-Mar-2018
The Hong
Kong Christian Council held an Ash Wednesday service at Holy Carpenter Church
on 14 February. The service called for congregants to count their blessings,
practise self-restraint, fast and pray, and care for the hungry and the poor. Congregants
were further invited to experience the plight of the poor and donate to a cistern
project at Gansu and a water purifier project at Myanmar by skipping meals. The passage of scripture read at the service was taken from Matthew 6:19–21 and reminded the faithful to store treasures not on earth but in heaven. Expounding on the lesson, the Revd Po Kam-cheong, former general secretary of the Hong Kong Christian Council, said in his sermon that one should focus one’s heart and mind on worthy pursuits and not waste resources on fruitless efforts.
