Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Archives Open Day

Publish Date: 09-Apr-2018

Over three hundred people visited the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Archives Open Day on 24 March to see the historical documents and artifacts. This year’s theme was Towards the Formation of the Province. Archbishop Paul Kwong officiated at the opening ceremony and St. Paul’s College Alumni Choir performed.

Archbishop Kwong said during his welcoming speech that his vision is to establish a well equipped archive in the future. Although the current archive at Bishop’s House is installed with twenty-four hour temperature control, it is not an ideal archive space because its environment is too humid. Archbishop Kwong envisaged that the future archive would be installed with better facilities for storing historical documents and exhibiting them to the public.

English and Cantonese guided tours began by providing visitors with a short introduction of the history of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. Visitors could then learn about the formation of the province by browsing the selection of letters, documents, photos and artifacts from 1847-1998 on display.
