Christians prays for the environment on World Day of Prayer 2018

Publish Date: 12-Apr-2018

Christians from different denominations around the world took part in the ecumenical World Day of Prayer on 10 March. The theme of this year was “All God’s Creation Is Very Good!”, and churches in the Republic of Suriname had prepared the worship material. The service in Hong Kong was held at the Chinese Rhenish Church in Wanchai by the World Day of Prayer (Hong Kong) Committee of the Hong Kong Christian Council.

During reflection, the organizers carried a black cloth over the congregants’ heads and then placed it in front of the altar as the officiant pointed out the many types of pollution caused by mankind. This act symbolized darkness shrouding the earth. After confession and absolution, the cloth was removed to represent a prayer for Jesus Christ’s forgiveness and the congregation’s determination to protect the environment and to become better stewards of the Lord’s.

The organizers announced that the theme of the World Day of Prayer 2019 would be “Come—Everything is Ready” and that the worship material would be prepared by the churches in Socialist Republic of Slovenia.
