Young African Christians told to bring changes to the world

Publish Date: 27-Apr-2018

Council of Anglican Provinces in Africa organized a youth congress with the theme Releasing Youth Potential, Realizing Possibilities for Africa, 9–14 April. Three hundred attendees came from all over Africa. Delegates from other member provinces in the Anglican Communion, such as England, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, also flew in to participate. The Very Revd Samson Fan from All Saints Cathedral, and the Revd Vincent Chan, curate of St Paul’s Church, were the representatives of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui.

The congress offered the youthful congregation a chance to discuss faith, society, politics, and economic reform. Dean Fan was touched by the vitality and the devotion of the Christians in Africa and was most impressed by the Bible study sessions conducted by the Rt Revd David Zac Niringiye, a retired assistant bishop of the Kampala diocese, Uganda.

Bishop Niringiye lamented that corruption was rampant in Africa. It seemed that while Christians were passionate about praying in church, they were also busy pursuing material riches outside. Bishop Naringye reminded the congregation of the Beatitudes and urged them to follow the example of the Lord, and to seek His blessing, promises, and mission.
