New residents in Tung Chung receive help settling in

Publish Date: 21-May-2018

The residents of Ying Tung Estate, a recently built public housing estate in Tung Chung, began moving into their apartments this March. To help them settle in their new homes, HKSKH Tung Chung Integrated Services joined hands with several other community groups and volunteer teams in organizing welcoming activities in April.

The volunteers gave second-hand furniture and electronic appliances to their new neighbours, and professional renovators led student volunteers to install the flooring in the apartments. The organizers also distributed information packs to help the newcomers apply for the supply of electricity, water, and gas, and to teach them how to inspect their new flats. Home inspection tools were made available for use to those who wished to borrow them.

On 5 May, the centre organized a carnival for the newcomers who needed to transfer schools or further their education. Twelve primary and secondary schools in the area set up booths on the grounds to introduce their curriculum through games.
