Educators discuss vision for positive education

Publish Date: 29-May-2018

Principals and teacher representatives of primary and secondary schools in the diocese of Western Kowloon gathered at St Thomas’ Church on 21 April to review and explore the education ethos of HKSKH and the province’s education policy paper. Participants also learned about the vision for positive education and the details of a scheme promoting to SKH schools positive education based on Christian values.

Ms Wong Man-han, chairperson of the Education Working Group at the Western Kowloon diocese, gave a presentation on the PERMA model that underpinned the Positive Education Development Plan. PERMA comprises of five elements that are essential to a person’s well-being: positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment.

Ms Wong hoped that all counselling teachers could help their students grow by adopting this model, so as to build a caring environment in the school. When implementing the positive education development plan, educators could work according to their schools’ resources and conditions as long as they focus on the PERMA values.
