Tsoi Kung Po teachers use digital apps to teach history

Publish Date: 08-Jun-2018

History teachers at Tsoi Kung Po Secondary School took their students on two field trips on 28 March and 18 April respectively, and used mobile apps to rouse their curiosity in the city’s past.

On 28 March, forty teachers and students boarded the tram numbered 120 at Kennedy Town and toured significant historical spots in Hong Kong such as Sheung Wan, Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, and Happy Valley. Teachers used the Nearpod learning platform to project old photographs of the landmarks they saw en route to their students’ tablets or smartphones, so they could compare the past and present states of each area. Besides photographs, teachers also told students a series of interesting historical episodes.

On 18 April, the history teacher took approximately ten fourth-form students on a trip to the Hong Kong Cemetery at Happy Valley and sent students to find gravestones of six famous people in the history of Hong Kong with a treasure hunting app. Upon reaching their destinations, the app would then prompt students to consider deeper historical issues with broader questions.
