HKSKH 20th Anniversary Celebration Concert

Publish Date: 19-Jul-2018

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the inauguration of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, the province staged a concert at Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 10 July to sing praises to God and offer gratitude to Him for these fruitful years. The concert was akin to a service, in the sense that besides enjoying hymns, parishioners of different churches also forged stronger bonds with each other by sharing this joyful moment together in the presence of the Lord.

The concert was split into two parts. Hymns in the first part were arranged according to the structure of the Nicene Creed. Song of the Creator, Magnificat, Light’s Glittering Morn Bedecks the Sky and A Psalm of Life led the audience to revisit the story of creation to salvation.

Mr Geoff Weaver, a world-renowned hymnologist and the music director of the Lambeth Conferences in 1998 and 2008, conducted the joint orchestra and joint choir in the second part. Members of the audience joined the choir in singing the theme song for the inauguration of the province, In Matched Pace We March Towards the Millennium, and the theme song for the 20th anniversary, Hear Us Lord This Day. Besides leading the orchestra and the choir, Mr Weaver also directed the world premiere of Te Deum at the concert, a hymn he has written especially for the occasion.

Approximately 1,500 people attended the concert. Mr Felix Yeung, music director of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, told Echo that all performers on stage expressed and practised their faith through music. He hoped that the evening was more than just a concert to the musicians and the audience, but a blessing from the Lord that fueled them to put Our Faith, Our Way into action.
