Publish Date: 10-Aug-2018
Chung Ying Theatre Company has invited the members of St Matthew's Neighbourhood Elderly Centre to take part in its oral history theartre project, Once under the Lion Rock. The three-year programme mobilizes seniors from eight districts to form troupes and turn their personal history into theatrical expression. Under the project, the participants receive training from professional drama tutors. Writers interview the elderly to collect their stories and transform their experiences into scripts. The seniors then tour the theatres and enact their life stories in schools and performance venues in the community, passing on their spirit of perseverance. Students are also encouraged to join the project and see the history of the Central and Western District from a new perspective. Through interacting with the elderly actors, the young people could contemplate on their personal and social values, as well as matters related to the elderly in a new light.
