Christians experience power of healing service

Publish Date: 17-Aug-2018

Two hundred brothers and sisters took part in a healing service at St Mary’s Church in the afternoon of 4 August. Organized by the Committee on Liturgical Worship of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island, the service exposed the congregation to the different types of liturgy of the Church.

Before the service commenced, in the parish hall was a talk on healing services. The Very Revd Matthias Der, dean of St John’s Cathedral, gave an overview on the significance and the origins of the ministry of healing.

Dean Der mentioned that the Church engaged in healing because it was what Jesus spent a lot of his time on when he was still on earth. While it was totally understandable that many believers tended to seek from God healing for the body, Dean Der pointed out that Christ healed not only a person’s body, but one’s mind and spirit as well. Thus, the faithful should examine the changes they underwent in their lives after appealing to God to heal them from their sickness.

Dean Der stressed that it was not for Christians to predict the method and the time frame of God’s healing, because these were matters within God’s sovereignty. Therefore, when seeking healing, they should contemplate upon the nature of God’s healing and how they were going to experience the process.
