Approximately twenty members of the Ming Hua Theological College Alumni Association visited the Ammar Mosque and Osman Ramju Sadick Islamic Centre in Wan Chai on 14 July as part of their twentieth anniversary celebration activities. Imam Uthman Yang, a local Chinese Muslim leader, explains to the visitors that the word Islam originates from the triliteral root S-L-M, which form words related to the concept of peace. Therefore, irrespective of where they hail from, when Muslims meet, the first words they say to each other are “Assalamu-alaikum”, a greeting in Arabic that means “peace be upon you”. He believes that Muslim should spread the understanding that Islam is a peaceful religion through their behaviour.
