Five hundred teachers and principals new to Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui gathered at St Andrew’s Church’s Life Centre to learn about the structure of the Anglican church in Hong Kong and her education ethos on 25 August. The orientation started with a morning prayer service in which the Revd Amos Poon preached the sermon. After the service, the Revd Canon Peter Koon briefed the participants about the province, and the Rt Revd Andrew Chan, the Bishop of Western Kowloon and chairman of Anglican (Hong Kong) Primary Schools Council, talked about the church’s education ethos. The Most Revd Dr Paul Kwong, the Archbishop of Hong Kong, tells the educators that the church has been spreading the message of God through schools, social service units, and healthcare services for over a hundred years. Members of the church have also been putting the message from the Gospel into practice through their action and daily life. The church places special emphasis on education and is dedicated to nurturing students in Hong Kong and Macau. Archbishop Kwong welcomes the newcomers to work with the province to carry out her education mission and cultivate mercy and love in the students. “You have an important role in the future of Hong Kong, Macau and China,” Archbishop Kwong reminds the attendees.
