Eastern Kowloon Workplace Fellowship holds sharing on dilemmas faced by professionals

Publish Date: 06-Jan-2020

The Diocese of Eastern Kowloon Workplace Fellowship held a sharing event on 3 November 2019 for professionals. Representatives of the Fellowship of Legal Professionals and Dr Lam Ching-choi, executive director of Haven of Hope Christian Service, shared their experience of a wonderful journey of spiritual renewal, with the hope that participants would also walk with God and walk people in their own pilgrimage in work and life.

Dr Lam’s speech was titled “Disciples, workplaces, and the Bible”. He talked about two dilemmas that all Christians face in their lives: they are part of this world but do not belong to the world. He quoted John 17:14: “I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.” He pointed out that Hong Kong people spend more than a third of their time on work, and therefore the workplace poses the biggest challenges to the faith of Christians. He said that all organizations are sinful, including religious organizations, because workplaces are created by human beings and are full of sins of humankind. The system of the workplace is not perfect because surviving is the top priority of all organizations. This results in a low priority for staff welfare. This unsatisfactory situation could not be resolved but need to be improved continually.
