The HKSKH Welfare Council and the Diocese of Eastern Kowloon jointly organized a charity concert, Angels in the Candlelight, on 5 January at the Diocesan Boys’ School. Dr Donald Lee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Welfare Council, said that the funds raised would be donated mainly to the Sheng Kung Hui Stroke Rehabilitation Charity Fund and the Counseling Service for Children in Mourning. Both projects are under the Welfare Council. The Diocese of Eastern Kowloon and the Holy Carpenter Church are also beneficiaries. They would use the funds to carry out pastoral work in different areas. The generosity and tireless efforts of the participants and donors resulted in the raising of more than three million Hong Kong dollars. In his speech, Dr Lee also explained the meaning of the billing of the concert. He pointed out that Hong Kong had gone through a tumultuous period and people felt heavy in their hearts. To name the concert Angels in the Candlelight, the organizers wished to spread a positive message and blessing, and instil hope in everyone about the future because angels always bring sparks of light in moments of darkness. Veteran singers, young and emerging artists, and the leaders of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui made up the troupe of performers. Among them were Archbishop Paul Kwong, Bishop Andrew Chan, and Bishop Timothy Kwok.
