Welfare Council joins hands with real estate developer to build transitional housing

Publish Date: 21-Jan-2020

The Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council and Sun Hung Kai Properties announced on 10 January that they would jointly develop a transitional housing project, United Court, in Yuen Long. It was expected to be completed in 2022 to provide homes for 1,600 underprivileged families initially. It would ultimately benefit 5,000 families.

While Sun Hung Kai Properties will provide property management consultancy upon the project’s completion, the Welfare Council will be responsible for its operation, management and offer residents a variety of community services.

Mr Michael Lai, the vice-chairman of the Welfare Council, said that United Court will feature people-oriented, engaging and harmonious community design, planning and facilities, including social enterprise stores and weekend markets to provide residents with diverse community engagement opportunities. The Welfare Council will introduce a first-of-its-kind Well-Being Index that would promote healthy living habits, positive energy and confidence among residents. It will also offer residents services based on their physical, mental and spiritual health needs, in the hope of developing a systematic service operation model unique to community housing.
