Welfare Council shares experience on care for cognitive disorder patients in Nanjing

Publish Date: 03-Mar-2020

There are approximately 10 million people suffering from a cognitive disorder in mainland China at present. According to estimates, this number will increase annually by three to four hundred thousand. Patients, their families and care providers need support from society.

The HKSKH Welfare Council has been working with the charity Amity Foundation in China from 2012 and has been providing consulting services to it. In December 2019, Welfare Council representatives went to Nanjing, at the invitation of the foundation, to hold a seminar for its “Amity Foundation elderly service skills training”. The seminar lasted a-day–and-a-half, during which the Welfare Council’s representatives shared practical training experience on caring for people suffering from a cognitive disorder. Some seventy elderly care workers, who came from elderly service organizations with church backgrounds, non-government organizations, and companies from across the nation, attended the training.
