Act of Love distributes 230,000 surgical masks to the needy

Publish Date: 12-Mar-2020

In response to the continual spread of COVID-19 after the Chinese New Year, HKSKH Act of Love made an appeal on 7 February for the donation of masks and other anti-bacterial cleaning supplies. Parishioners, churches, charities, businesses and dignitaries were quick to heed the appeal. And as a result, the Act of Love collected 230,000 masks and 15,000 bottles of cleaning products within a week. These supplies were distributed through some fifty social service units under HKSKH Welfare Council to the elderly who live alone, low-income families, and vulnerable communities. Staff members of social service units learned of many touching stories during the distribution of the supplies.

People are getting back to work in March. But the epidemic continues to rage on and has created a huge impact on Hong Kong. Many companies folded, some employees are made redundant, and a lot of citizens will be facing underemployment or unemployment in the near future. The Act of Love calls on parishioners to continue donating surgical masks and personal protection products as well as supermarket coupons so that parishioners who are not eligible to receive welfare assistances could obtain short-term financial or food support.

If you have any enquiries, please call 8209 8122 to contact Ms Poline Chan, the social worker responsible for this project at Act of Love.
