The Revd Samuel Wu, the former vicar of the Church of the Good Shepherd, passed away on 16 March at the age of 92. Archbishop Paul Kwong mourned the death of Fr Wu and prayed that the deceased would find peace in the arms of God. He also prayed for Fr Ng’s wife and family. Archbishop Kwong said that Fr Wu was a faithful servant of the Lord who was enthusiastic about evangelizing. Fr Wu was involved in the Church’s publishing ministry and served God through the written word. He was well versed with the Bible and specialized in the New Testament. Besides writing for the Echo on topics related to the Bible, he was also a reviewer of the revised Chinese Union Version of the Bible for the Hong Kong Bible Society. Fr Wu was fluent in Chinese and English and an expert in translation. He translated many English theological essays and books into Chinese. In 1986, he started Mandarin worship at St John’s Cathedral, which has been well received.
