As the COVID-19 pandemic begins to show signs of subsiding in Hong Kong, schools of all levels are now preparing for reopening. Although most classes continued on the internet during the four-month school closure, it is undeniable that it has caused some interruptions to the academic development of students, which was designed for classroom learning. Ms Joelle Hui, principal of All Saints’ Middle School, said that the school would conduct a phased assessment of its students’ performance and priority would be given to the mental and spiritual needs of its students. As for St James’ Primary School, teachers will reschedule classes after school resumption with the aim of balancing the needs of different learning subjects because the school will run on a half-day basis. The school also decided to postpone summer holidays to allow students to catch up with the syllabus. While Kindergarten K1 and K2 classes will not resume in this school year, K3 students will go back to kindergarten on 15 June. Ms Siu Lin-ying, principal of St Matthias Church Chiu Chun Kindergarten, said that teachers would focus on assessing the cognitive development of students.
