Archbishop Paul Kwong announces the establishment of Education Department

Publish Date: 21-Jul-2020

HKSKH Primary Schools Council held its 2019/2020 annual dinner on 9 July.

At the dinner, Archbishop Paul Kwong announced that Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui would establish an education department to enable the church to carry out its education mission more proactively in Hong Kong and Macau.

The Archbishop highlighted the major functions of the new department: (1) in view of the fact that HKSKH has three school sponsoring bodies overseeing approximately a hundred secondary, primary and kindergartens, the new department would be responsible for coordinating the sponsoring bodies and act as the sole point of contact for communications between external parties and these school sponsoring bodies, therefore, the new department is to support and coordinate all schools and not to govern them because all schools have their own incorporated management committees; (2) the new education department is to provide administrative and documentation services to school sponsoring bodies; (3) it also provides training and professional development for school board directors and teachers; (4) it accepts donation for training and professional development; (5) It assists in evangelization of the Good News to students and to bring God’s love, peace, and reconciliation to them.

He said that the new education department is a two-tier organization. The first tier comprises the Board of Directors that will be made up of clerics, such as the Archbishop, the secretary general, and the legal advisor, while the second tier, which is the executive committee to implement the church’s education policies, consists of chairpersons of the three school sponsoring bodies and chairperson of the Standing Commission on Education.
