The Mrs Lily Pong Scholarship for Church Organists’ overseen by the Standing Commission on Liturgical Matters usually holds a concert in late August every year. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the concert was cancelled in August. However, as the province announced that public services resumed in October, the organizers of the concert decided to replace the concert by a thanksgiving service this year which was held on 17 October at St Paul’s Church. In the welcoming speech before the service, Ms Pong Mei-kin, second daughter of Bishop Pong, thanked the Revd Canon Thomas Pang, vicar of St Paul’s Church, and staff for putting the service together in a short notice and congratulated the graduates for their achievements. Archbishop Paul Kwong also praised all organists for their performances. He said “Organs play an important role in the liturgies of Anglican services. When congregants hear the organ, their hearts naturally turn toward God. That’s why I am grateful for the scholarship for training these outstanding organists for the province and for enabling students to use their God bestowed gifts to lead the congregation with music in worshipping him.”
