Macau Social Services Coordination Office holds home improvement competition

Publish Date: 01-Dec-2020

To promote positive family relationships, Taipa Youth and Family Integrated Service Centre of the SKH Macau Social Services Coordination Office held a home improvement competition to enhance the study environment of children in May and June. Parents were encouraged to pay attention to the home environment that would help their children focus on their studies and develop their abilities to look after themselves. On 31 October, the centre held an award ceremony and the launch of the homework strategy guidebook.

During the preparation of the programme, the centre focused not only on analyzing and discussing the needs of children at home but also invited an occupation therapist to train a team of social workers. The team learned about key concepts of improving the concentration of children through different means such as physical exercises, hoping to provide comprehensive professional support to families. The team also provided consulting services to families and referred the needy to appropriate organizations for further assistance.

The competition received fifty entries from parents. These parents were invited by the centre to suggest ways to improve their children’s study environment at home, such as the removal of fancy tables and chairs in the study area. The staff at the centre also visited many families in Macau to guide them on better furnishing their homes.
