Church of the Magnificat’s mission draws to a close

Publish Date: 23-Feb-2021

The Church of the Magnificat, a mission church in the Diocese of Eastern Kowloon, officially closed on 1 January 2021. To mark the occasion, the church held a thanksgiving service on 26 December 2020. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the service could only take place as a pre-recorded video uploaded online for parishioners’ participation.

The Revd Lee Kwok Kuen, the first priest-in-charge of the mission church, said in his sermon at the thanksgiving service that hard work sometimes was not a guarantee for success because God’s will might be different from the people’s will. The Church of the Magnificat was established eighteen years ago in 2002. She weathered various tumults. Revd Lee believed that the community would remain in place even after the close of the mission church because it has amalgamated with the Holy Carpenter Church. In future, people who previously served the Church of the Magnificat can continue to contribute their talents bestowed by God at the Holy Carpenter Church and the closing of the Church of the Magnificat is the start of an even greater mission.
