All Saints’ Cathedral offered pastoral services to the population in Yau Ma Tei, Jordan and Mongkok, where many of them are underprivileged. Prior to the Chinese New Year in 2021, the cathedral allocated funds from its Neighbourly Care Charity to purchase supermarket coupons for 487 low-income families of students at All Saints’ Middle School and SKH Kei Wing Primary School, to help them and their families enjoy a warm and happy Chinese New Year. The Very Revd Samson Fan, Dean of All Saints’ Cathedral, told Echo that the Neighbourly Care Charity was set up by the cathedral in 2011 to help people affected by the fatal Fa Yuen Street fire. Its purpose is to allow the cathedral to allocate funds quickly to respond to people with sudden and urgent needs Dean Fan said, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, the low-income families of students of the two schools have been under immense financial stress because many parents have lost their jobs. Therefore in last November, the teams in the evangelical department and charity department of the cathedral appealed to parishioners to donate to the charity so that the cathedral could support families that are affected by the pandemic or are facing financial difficulties. It received over HK$ 100,000 in less than a month.”
