Compass Rose Society Hong Kong Chapter to raise funds for divinity school in Myanmar

Publish Date: 02-Nov-2018

Compass Rose Society held its annual general meeting on 9 – 10 October in London. The Very Revd Samson Fan, vice president of the society and Mr David Tse, a board member, had flown across oceans to take part.

During the meeting, Fr Fan and Mr Tse brought up Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui’s concerns for churches in Asia, and moved a motion to raise funds for an expansion project of the Holy Cross Theological College in Yangon, Myanmar.

Holy Cross Theological College was founded in 1934. It is the only divinity school in the Province of Myanmar. The college has been planning, since 2010, to provide a Masters programme, expand the campus by constructing a college complex, enlarge the library and enhance facilities for children and teenagers at the orphanage it operates. The expansion project is estimated to cost US$ 600,000. The Myanmar province is expected to provide forty percent of this amount and raise funds for the rest of the sum from overseas donors.

The board passed the motion and Compass Rose Society HK Chapter would follow up and discuss the details of this project with the Church of Myanmar in the near future.
