More SEN pupils benefit from welfare council’s project
Publish Date: 14-Nov-2018
The second phase of Health Engineer, an initiative helping children with special needs to build healthy life, has just ended. The project was set up by HKSKH Welfare Council and was supported by BOC Life. Since its launch in 2012, Health Engineer has served 12,000 people in over twenty schools. The second phase ran between September 2015 and June 2018 and, with a focus on alleviating learning difficulties, included tailored occupational therapy sessions. Under the project, occupational therapists, nutritionists, and social workers joined forces to use innovative, cross-disciplinary training methods to enhance the children’s physical, mental, and spiritual well-being as well as their handwriting skills through a diverse array of activities and games. At the same time, the project also provided professional training to parents and teachers. Health Engineer has proved fruitful. The welfare council analyzed the performance of the 238 pupils completing the scheme’s activities, and found that all of them displayed substantial improvements in their Chinese and English handwriting skills, visual perceptual skill, or eye-hand coordination.
