Publish Date: 15-Jan-2019
Approximately a thousand staff members attended HKSKH Welfare Council’s annual meeting on 14 December. Mrs Cherry Tse, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, took part in the event as the guest of honour on behalf of Mr Matthew Cheung, Chief Secretary for Administration, who was not able to attend due to health reasons. She was joined by Archbishop Paul Kwong, honorary patron of the council, Bishop Andrew Chan, Bishop Timothy Kwok, and members of the board of directors and the executive committee in reviewing the council’s work in the past year. Mrs Tse read a speech prepared by Mr Cheung that pointed out that Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui was not only a religious organization, but also a welfare institution that played an important role in improving the lives of Hong Kong’s citizens, enhancing social harmony, and partnering closely with the government. She mentioned that the government would continue working together with citizens and the commercial sector to make policies related to labour, welfare, elderly care, and the vulnerable community. The government would actively contact people from all walks of life so they could empower the vulnerable communities in partnership.
