Christian lawyers pray together as new legal year opens

Publish Date: 04-Feb-2019

A congregation of Protestant and Catholic legal practitioners gathered at St John’s Cathedral on 14 January to take part in a prayer service that marked the opening of the legal year in 2019. Archbishop Paul Kwong of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui and Cardinal John Tong of the Roman Catholic Church jointly officiated at the service; the Revd Franklin Lee, chaplain of St John’s Cathedral, preached the sermon; the Hon. Chief Justice Geoffrey Ma, chief justice of the Court of Final Appeal and the Hon. Mr Justice Andrew Cheung, permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal, read the first and second lessons respectively; and the choristers from the choir of Good Hope School and the choir of St John’s Cathedral sang hymns.

During his sermon, Fr Lee said that law was necessary for a functioning society, but aside from the law, the society also needed faith for it to build a better world.
