Mission Commission visits Guangzhou

Publish Date: 15-Feb-2019

A ten-member delegation of the Standing Commission for Mission went to Guangzhou on 16–18 November 2018 and met with representatives of the Committee of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement of the Protestant Churches in Guangzhou and the Guangzhou Christian Council. The delegation also visited five churches under the two institutions.

“You came just in time for us to think anew about the meaning of the Church’s existence in Guangzhou,” said the representatives of the two institutions when welcoming the delegates.

The Revd Feng Hao, chairman of the Committee of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement of the Protestant Churches in Guangzhou, and the Revd Chen Yinuo, president of Guangzhou Christian Council, both agreed that the visit was arranged by God to deepen the ties between the churches of Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Pastor Feng said that past exchanges between the churches of the two cities had basically involved church leaders only. Therefore, he hoped that there would be more exchanges between clergy, parishioners and individual churches to foster close bonds in all spheres. He also said that during the forty years of China’s reform, Guangzhou Christian Council had founded fifteen churches and trained twenty-seven pastors. However, Pastor Feng said, with tens of thousands of parishioners in the city, there was a shortage of clergy, and all churches in Guangzhou hoped to conduct more exchanges with churches of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui so as to learn from each other.
