To give the delegates of the Anglican Consultative Council, who had mainly stayed in the Gold Coast Hotel during the meetings, a chance to glimpse at the traditional and contemporary culture of Hong Kong, HKSKH Welfare Council organized a Cultural Evening after the closing service on 5 May at St John’s Cathedral. In addition to Chinese drum performances, dancing and singing, the delegates were also treated to a dragon dance. After the first part of the show, all participants were invited to a light dinner at Lee Hall to enjoy local snacks prepared in booths on the open grounds of St John’s Cathedral. After the first round of performances, Archbishop Justin Welby expressed his thanks to Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui for her hospitality, and praised Hong Kong for being able to tend to serious matters and sharing joy and fun. He visited a number of places during his short stay and experienced the “bubbly effervescent energy” of the communities. He said “This joy is embedded in the profound love for Jesus Christ, the poor, the needy, and reaching out to people with Good News that Jesus brings us.”
