Hong Kong Baptist University held its 11th International Symposium on the History of Christianity in Modern China on 14–15 June. The theme this year was “Chinese Churches in World Christianities”. Academics from East Asia, Europe, and America gathered to share the fruits of their research and experiences. In the closing ceremony on 15 June, tribute was paid to distinguished scholars, and the Revd Prof Philip Wickeri, provincial archivist of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Archives, was one of the awardees. In his speech, Prof Wickeri said that he was very honoured to take the award and shared his experience in historical research with the participants. He said that theology was very important to historical research and to Christianity in China because historians had to connect people’s faith with their actions. Archives and documents would help historians in this aspect, and for this, Prof Wickeri had been traveling around China to collect related letters and records. Prof Wickeri also said that when scholars were studying the works of others, they had to read it from historical and theological perspectives and assess the accuracy of the records.
