The Fifth China Committee on Religion and Peace held its first meeting on 3 June in Beijing. Mr Wang Yang, the Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, called on committee members, which included Archbishop Paul Kwong of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, to “update international community about religious development in China”. Mr Wang told the committee that for such an update, they need to understand the religious policy in China, deepen their knowledge and tell the Chinese story to foreigners in a language that they could understand, and therefore increase the global status of the Chinese religious sector. He also told the participants that in order to advocate for peace and create a community of shared future for humankind they have to be steadfast in developing themselves to create a team of religious leaders that could contribute to world peace.
