Tsoi Kung Po students make spring rolls with the US Navy

Publish Date: 05-May-2017

The Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) reached Hong Kong on 7 April. Twenty members of the navy on board and staff at the US consulate visited SKH Tsoi Kung Po Secondary School on 10 April. Together they participated in a series of activities such as cooking, Chinese paper cutting, singing Cantonese songs, sketching and doing sports.

Out of all the activities, the navy was most interested in making spring rolls, a Chinese snack. A member of the US Navy said that he cooked frequently but this was his first time cooking with students and that the spring rolls were much better than their usual fare on the ship.

This visit opened the path to communication between the students and the navy. Both sides harboured good impressions on the other. The navy found the students polite and helpful while the students found the navy friendly and suave.
