Discovery Bay Church connects with people in need during the season of Lent

Publish Date: 19-May-2017

HKSKH Discovery Bay Church ran a five-week volunteering programme during the Lent in 2017. The Revd Mark Rogers and twenty-odd congregants participated in different social service activities arranged by the HKSKH Welfare Council’s Act of Love project.

Most of the congregants in Discovery Bay Church use English as their mother tongue. However the language barrier did not hinder their serving locals in need. They helped with child care, visited elderly homes, learned balloon modeling with young people and practised English with them, and engaged in many other activities.

Father Rogers said that people will only truly understand the needs of the society when they are exposed to its different groups. He lamented that some people work long hours for a meager salary of $8000 and there are still a lot they need help with.

Although Easter is over, the joy and hope it brings are real. What the congregants at Discovery Bay Church experienced will inspire them to continue serving others with the love of Christ.
