The Amity Foundation’s annual Walk for Living Water took place at Ma On Shan Promenade on 29 April. The organizer made “Water and Wastewater” this year’s theme for the event in response to the United Nations’ World Water Day 2017. Examining the relationship between daily life and wastewater, the event called on the government, schools and the public to take action to save water and make it available to the needy. The event attracted 550 participants coming from schools, churches and organizations. They walked 3.6 km along the Ma On Shan Promenade while carrying buckets of water, to experience the plight of residents in the mountainous area who need to walk for hours to fetch water. The event raised approximately $220,000 which will be donated to a primary school in Qinghai to build a solar-powered wet room to improve the hygiene standards of both their teachers and students.
