The percentage of patients has doubled since 1996, with an increase of 18,000 new cases yearly. The number is expected to double again by 2036 to 280,000 patients. To alleviate the situation, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and the Charles K Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease sponsored St James’ Settlement in 2016 to extend The Jockey Club Charles Kao Brain Health Services for another three years. This project involves a promotional truck taking nurses and social workers around Hong Kong to provide diagnoses for early-stage dementia patients and offer follow-up or referral services. The newest phase of the project is launched on 7 July. Deputy chief executive officer of St James’ Settlement, Ms Josephine Lee, thanked the sponsors for their support and said that the Brain Health Services would be available to all patients and caregivers, unrestrained by location.
