New deacon made in the Diocese of Hong Kong Island
Publish Date: 06-Nov-2017
An
ordination service was held on 1 November (All Saints’ Day) at St John’s
Cathedral. Bishop Andrew Chan of Western Kowloon ordained Mr Walter Lau to the order
of the diaconate in Archbishop Paul Kwong’s stead because the Archbishop, who
is the bishop of Hong Kong Island, had been indisposed. During the service, Bishop Chan admonished the deacon-to-be to carry out the duties of the servant to the best of his abilities. In the name of Jesus Christ, he should care for all members in the congregation, especially the poor, the weak, the sick and the lonely. He also exhorted Mr Lau to spread Christ’s salvation and love among the people with whom he lived, worked, and worshipped. The preacher, Fr Jonathan Chee, also reminded Mr Lau that God is not merely calling one person to service, but is calling all members of the clergy as a team to serve.
