Ecumenical worship marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation

Publish Date: 14-Nov-2017

The Hong Kong Lutheran Foundation and the Hong Kong Christian Council jointly held a special service to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation on 31 October. Clerics and members of many Christian denominations took part in the service, including Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, the Methodist Church, and the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China. Representatives of Hong Kong’s Roman Catholic diocese also attended.

Delivering opening remarks before the service began, the Revd Po Kam-cheong pointed out what distinguished this year’s service from the past services. He said that this was the first time the Lutheran World Federation and the Roman Catholic Church put aside their animosity to commemorate the Reformation together with different Christian denominations around the world. Such ecumenical event was a rare occasion even at a local level here in Hong Kong and was a witness to Christian unity.
