Flatmates build camaraderie on cleaning day
Publish Date: 25-Jun-2018
Hong Kong Welfare Council organized a cleaning day on 9 June as part of its To Kwa Wan Road community housing project. Fifty residents and volunteers worked together to clean their apartment blocks. Ms Louisa Lee, an assistant director of HKSKH Welfare Council, said that aside from offering better homes at affordable rents to those in need, the scheme aimed to foster mutuality among households in the community. The welfare council would organize other community-building activities for residents in the future. Ms Lee added that this project was being funded by charities and private corporations only; to sustain this project, government support was needed. HKSKH Welfare Council is a service operators in the Community Housing Movement, launched by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service in October 2017, and manages sixty-one apartments on To Kwa Wan Road. Every unit is expected to house two families, each paying a rent not exceeding a quarter of its income.
